LEED, which stands for “Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design,” is an international benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings; it promotes an overall approach to sustainability.
Head officeIn October, 2010, Gaz Métro’s Head Office, located at 1717 du Havre in Montréal, has received LEED CI, Silver certification awarded by the Canada Green Building Council. This internationally recognized certification underscores Gaz Métro's commitment to the environment and sustainable development. The improvements carried out at Gaz Métro's Head Office have resulted, among other things, in a 20% reduction in water consumption, an annual decrease of $100,000 in heating costs, and an annual reduction of 1,000 tonnes of CO2 (equivalent to the annual emissions of almost 300 cars).

Rouyn-Noranda business officeTwo years after the official opening of its Rouyn-Noranda business office, Gaz Métro received LEED Canada NC 2009 certification (for new constructions) today from the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC). Gaz Métro's business office is now the first building in Rouyn-Noranda to be certified LEED NC 2009, attesting that it meets some of the world's most stringent environmental standards. The Rouyn- Noranda office's recognition as a green building comes as the result of Gaz Métro's efforts in recent years to reduce its environmental footprint while continuing to improve its energy efficiency. It was made possible by efficient, innovative equipment and the use of natural gas, the primary power source in Gaz Métro's facilities. Both factors are key considerations in obtaining LEED certification.
