In Québec, nearly 140,000 households are already living with blue. From the kitchen to the living room, from the basement to the yard, from bedrooms to family areas, natural gas is a reliable source of comfort on demand. Here are the steps to follow to connect your home to the Gaz Métro's natural gas network.
Gaz Métro frequently performs extensions of its gas grid to connect businesses or homes. Therefore, even if your residential area is not served, you should let us know of your intentions to enjoy life in blue.
Once service availability is confirmed, we will arrange to meet with you to get an idea of your installation needs and your possible options for new appliances and technology. This meeting entails no cost or commitment and is conducted by a Gaz Métro Authorized Partner.

A quality installation is guaranteed thanks to our Authorized Partners. These are independent entrepreneurs and are all members of the Corporation des maîtres mécaniciens en tuyauterie du Québec (CMMTQ). They are subject to a number of strict quality controls and must hold a contractor's licence from the Régie du bâtiment du Québec (RBQ).
Absolutely. You can contact as many certified partners as you wish. With their help, you will be able to choose the appropriate appliances, after which they will submit a detailed estimate of the overall costs, including the purchase and installation costs of each appliance. They will also apply all the grants for which you are eligible.
Once you have accepted the project proposal, Gaz Métro will proceed with connecting your residence to the underground gas network.
The tie-in work is performed by a general contractor hired and supervised by Gaz Métro. Where the soil conditions allow it, “torpedoes” (piercing tools) are the best digging tools in order to minimize excavation work. Once the connection is completed, the gas meter is installed within a recommended area of one to three meters from one of the front corners of the building.
Once you have signed your contract, you should estimate more or less 6 weeks for your house to be connected to the gas grid.
To connect your house to the gas grid, tie-in fees of $300 are charged. These can be paid all at once or split into 24 equal interest-free payments via your monthly gas bill.
We need to validate if your home is close to the network
After your residence is connected to Gaz Métro’s network, the Authorized Partner will proceed with the installation of the natural gas piping system and your new appliances and then conduct a leak test. After that, a technician from Gaz Métro will activate the meter and ensure that the new installations are safe and in accordance with standards. The Authorized Partner will then proceed to light the appliances and explain how they work. You can then take advantage of your new life in blue.
Costs vary depending on various criteria such as selected appliances, required tie-in work, etc. Prior to undertaking gas installation work, the certified partner will submit a commitment-free estimate which will include the breakdown of the project costs (see step 2 of the connection process).
