Gaz Métro: Building a better life for all

Montréal, September 25, 2009 – Yesterday, the jury for the Québec Prize of Excellence in Corporate Citizenship (Korn Ferry - L'Actualité – National) awarded Gaz Métro the title of Corporate Citizen of the Year – Social Responsibility at the Tremblant Forum 2009. Gaz Métro received the honour for the redesign of its community investment program, including the realization of its groundbreaking community project: 80, ruelle de l’Avenir. Gaz Métro wants to share this recognition with all the partners who made this extraordinary project possible.

80, ruelle de l’Avenir
Designed for the young people in the Centre-Sud and Hochelaga-Maisonneuve districts of Montréal, 80, ruelle de l’Avenir aims to combat school dropout through the acquisition of cross-over, transferable knowledge. By plunging them into a stimulating and enriching universe, 80, ruelle de l’Avenir helps the young people adopt healthy lifestyles and new skills. “80, ruelle de l’avenir is an eloquent demonstration of the involvement of civil society in the construction of a more just world, where each child has the right to reach their full potential,” says Sophie Brochu, President and Chief Executive Officer of Gaz Métro. Through its participation in this unique project, Gaz Métro is giving concrete expression to its employees’ sense of social responsibility and its corporate values. Gaz Métro in brief

Operating in this regulated sector for more than 50 years, Gaz Métro has become the energy supplier of choice by more than 180,000 customers in Québec and 134,500 customers in Vermont, and has acquired the know-how and competencies needed to diversity its activities well beyond natural gas. Gaz Métro works hard to satisfy its customers, unit holders and employees, as well as the communities where it operates.
