For the fourth year in a row, Gaz Métro is proud to be teaming up with the Montreal Bike Fest
Montreal, March 29, 2011 – Gaz Métro is proud to be an associate sponsor of the Montreal Bike Fest for a fourth consecutive year. Teaming up with this prestigious Montreal event is a natural choice for Gaz Métro as it endeavours to do its part to improve the quality of the air and the living environment within its community. This partnership speaks to the company's pledge to build a bluer world. Similarly, Gaz Métro also encourages residents to recycle their old bicycles and embrace biking as a more eco-friendly means of transportation.
“Our partnership with the Montreal Bike Fest is a natural extension of our sustainability initiatives here at Gaz Métro. Besides promoting cycling as an alternative to driving, we support a recycling program for old bicycles, which is also designed to help reintegrate young adults into the community and the workforce. In addition, we are proud to see so many Gaz Métro employees participating in and volunteering for this event,” said Guylaine Lehoux, Gaz Métro's Vice-President, Growth.
Gaz Métro: Informing and replenishing!
Because customer service is a key priority for Gaz Métro, a series of Maisons bleues will once again be set up on site at the Montreal Bike Fest. They will serve as information booths during the various activities, namely the Metropolitan Challenge (May 29), Tour la Nuit (June 3) and Tour de l'Île de Montréal (June 5), and will distribute blue energy snacks to cyclists at the finishing line.
Gaz Métro is also lending its support to SOS Vélo, a non-profit organization that recycles used bicycles and promotes the reintegration of young adults with difficulties into the workforce and society in general. During the months of May and June, Gaz Métro urges people to donate their old bicycles to the organization, via its home pickup service. Donors will be entered into a draw to win a cycling getaway package valued at $1,000 (www.gazmetro.com/velo) or one of three ÉCOVÉLO bicycles. The public can also take their bicycles to the Operation Bike-to-Work activity on Wednesday, June 1st, at La Fontaine Park, on Rachel and De Brébeuf.
Gaz Métro's commitment to cycling
Cycling is an ongoing commitment for Gaz Métro. The Gaz Métro cycling club is dedicated to promoting cycling as an alternative form of commuting. Plus, the company makes a number of self-service bicycles and a 50-stall bike parking facility available to its employees. Gaz Métro considers these initiatives to be an excellent opportunity to give back to the community and help build a better tomorrow.
