We are proud of our LEED certifications

LEED, which stands for “Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design,” is an international benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings. It promotes an overall approach to sustainability. In 2010, Gaz Métro’s Head Office, located in Montréal, received LEED CI, Silver certification awarded by the Canada Green Building Council. At that point, only five other buildings in Québec held that same certification. In 2014, Gaz Métro received LEED Canada-NC 2009 certification for the construction of its business office in Rouyn-Noranda.

Our Head Office

Gaz Métro obtained LEED CI certification for the renovation work done at its Head Office from 2005 to 2007. The renovations had three objectives: improve the quality of the work environment, control costs, and improve the energy and environmental performance of the facilities.

The improvements resulted in a 20% reduction in water consumption, an annual decrease of $100,000 in heating costs, and an annual reduction of 1,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions, equivalent to the annual emissions of almost 300 cars.

Our Rouyn-Noranda business office

In 2014, Gaz Métro built its new business office according to specific standards. The office was the first building in Rouyn-Noranda to receive LEED NC 2009 certification, attesting that it meets some of the world’s most stringent environmental standards. This achievement was made possible by efficient, innovative equipment and the use of natural gas–factors that are key considerations in obtaining LEED certification.
